JOB SUMMARY

Main goals

The Economist/Business Analyst reports to the Head of Sales & Marketing Vietnam and plays a key role in helping the Sales and Marketing team make timely, informed and data driven decisions that result in the best financial performance for the business.

In this role the candidate will be expected to work closely with cost controlling and accounting teams, and the business strategy and development team to produce actionable research and analysis, statistical models, and technical reports. The candidate will be expected to draw his/her own conclusions from research, and to present and defend their opinions to subject matter experts and management.    

Main Duties

  • Primary and secondary research of business trends, global business conditions, market pricing. Drawing conclusions from such research, and supporting conclusions with quantitative/qualitative evidence, and modelling. Planning and conducting studies that identify new trends, or areas of interest.      
  • Assist subject matter experts by preparing technical reports, provide useful data, statistics, forecasting and market analysis.      
  • Collect and process economic and statistical data, using statistical methods and data sampling techniques to support modelling and reporting activities.  
  • Making himself/herself an expert in the key markets that the business is involved in, which may involve research trips, attendance of trade shows/conferences etc.   
  • Compiling, studying and examining business data to propose constructive modifications and alternations that help to improve overall business performance.   
  • Formulating business presentations and reports that display investigative results, outcomes, modifications.  
  • Competitor analysis; collecting and interrogating data on pricing, inventory levels, trade flows.           
  • Research assignments.         
  • Prepare commodity pricing data and short-term forecasts for weekly and monthly reports.   

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Experience, skill, knowledge

  • Graduate/Post-graduate in finance/banking/economics with 3-5 years’ experience in consultancy/corporate strategy/business development/fund house. Exposure in natural resources will be a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Economist/Business Analyst/Researcher role.
  • Commercial experience, understanding of manufacturing or mining processes is preferable.
  • Able to demonstrate a portfolio of research work, in previous employment sector.
  • Candidate must be detail orientated with experience in financial modelling and interpretation of results.
