ManpowerGroup Vietnam convenes with Intel Products and Nestlé to share insights on The Future Factory

Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), May 14, 2020 – Today, ManpowerGroup Vietnam collaborated with American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in HCMC and organized “The Future Factory” webinar, discussing the impact of transformation on manufacturing organizations and mapping essential skills within the sector. The webinar welcomed Vice President, Manufacturing and Operations General Manager, Intel Products Vietnam - Mr Kim Huat Ooi and Technical Director of Nestlé Vietnam – Mr Todd Yates as honored guest speakers, sharing thought leadership in manufacturing along with Country Manager of ManpowerGroup Malaysia, Director & Executive Sponsor, TAPFIN – Asia Pacific & Middle East - Mr Sam Haggag.

All around the world, new technologies are disrupting and transforming the industries, and manufacturing is no exception. As a result, almost half of all roles (49%) in manufacturing will need to change within the next three-to-five years. Especially the roles requiring advanced digital skills such as automation, instrumentation and robotics are on the rise.

The disruption of new technologies transforming the manufacturing industry and impacting the need for more advanced digital manufacturing jobs also requires talent with more advanced skills.

ManpowerGroup’s workforce analysis has identified 165 new and evolving roles across seven “domains” of technical expertise, including Digital Manufacturing; Digital Thread; Digital Enterprise; Digital Product; Digital Design; Supply Network; Omni, based on which manufacturing organizations can identify future talent needs.

It was made clear that due to the technological disruption, employers need to develop a connected workforce strategy. As it gets challenging to find trained workers with necessary skills, organizations must build, bridge and borrow the skill sets they need, that will be critical for their success in the short, medium and long term.

Mr. Sam Haggag highlighted that “On-the-job training increases the retention of talent with in-demand skills”. Given this context, companies need newer approach to accelerate upskilling and to develop the talent they need to remain competitive. The most effective skill development is achieved through shorter certification programs of six months or less.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son, Operation Manager, Staffing and Outsourcing Services, ManpowerGroup shared: “Vietnam has steadily turned into a manufacturing hotspot in Asia, due to its relatively large and cost-competitive workforce, attractive tax regime, stable political environment, geographical advantages, and open trade policies. Foreign firms, including those from China, have planned to expand manufacturing operations in Vietnam in an effort to diversify supply chains. This will bring about great opportunities for Vietnam to develop manufacturing to the next level, creating thousands of meaningful jobs for the local workforce.”
