ManpowerGroup Vietnam and International Partners Shared People Strategy During and Beyond the Pandemic

Vietnam, 8th September 2020 - ManpowerGroup Vietnam today convened with PwC and Dynamic Retail to organize “People Strategy During and Beyond the Pandemic” webinar. The event shared valuable insights on the workforce demand during Covid-19, how the global pandemic is reshaping in-demand skills and value-based, empathetic leadership is essential to leaders.

COVID-19 is playing out as an economic and social crisis. Work literally left the building and whole industries are disrupting at speeds never seen before. According to “The Future for Workers, By Workers: Making the Next Normal Better for All” latest research by ManpowerGroup, the pandemic caused typical impacts at work.

First, it is the hybrid future of work represented by strong remote leadership, transparent frequent communication, culture that’s fit for the combination of work /home workplace and accessible wellbeing. Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang, Country Head, PERM and HR Consulting Services, ManpowerGroup Vietnam shared: “To get beyond the pandemic, it is notable that leaders should focus on prioritizing emotional wellbeing with the same importance as physical and organizational measures and build resilience - in people and the organization.” She also mentioned key ways to make the next normal better for all, including encouraging all the workforce to reskill and engage in continuous learning in this changing world of work.

Second, the pandemic is reshaping in-demand skills. It is accelerating the demand for technical and human skills. Acute skills shortages are exacerbating in tech – demand for cyber security, software development and data analysts continue unabated. Human skills or the so-called soft skills are more important than ever in workers and in leaders, namely communication, prioritization, adaptability, initiative taking, integrity, analytical thinking, relationship building, empathy, coaching and resilience.

As part of people strategy amidst the pandemic, Mr. Thiet (Ted) K. Nguyen, Director, Management Consulting, People & Organization, PwC Vietnam commented: “Value-based, empathetic leadership and emotional intelligence are what needed to get through and beyond the pandemic. Thriving with new deliverables, new products or services is a must. Moreover, leaders are required to maintain or increase workforce efficiency and productivity while keeping employees from a state of anxiety.”
