From Crisis to Prosperity: ManpowerGroup Vietnam convenes with VNHR to share how companies get opportunities in the crisis

Ho Chi Minh City, 9th December 2020 – Today, ManpowerGroup Vietnam partnered with Vietnam Human Resources Association (VNHR) to organize “From Crisis to Prosperity” webinar. The online event is aimed at sharing HR’s role in helping organizations overcome the health, economic and social crisis amidst the pandemic. Experienced speakers from leading Staffing and HR Consulting service (ManpowerGroup Vietnam), international Food & Beverage company (Nestle Vietnam) and leading Insurance and Hospitality group (Sovico) also shared success stories on overcoming the crisis in their respective industries.

The latest research from ManpowerGroup, “The Future for Workers, by Workers” revealed that a small proportion of the population is infected by COVID-19, but almost all (93%) will be impacted. The pandemic which began as a health crisis is now playing out as an economic and social crisis. ManpowerGroup Vietnam’s latest survey also revealed that more than 27% of employers were severely affected and nearly 7% were hardest hit, causing them to face possible closures (*).

Against this setting, HR’s role has become more critical than ever in helping companies navigate through this crisis. HR leaders have turned into well-being experts and education advisers to help people stay employed and safe. Taking into consideration the speed, scale and other major impacts that are likely to last long term by this pandemic, now, more than ever before, business leaders need to know what to do and how to adapt to the changes. Businesses must be clear on what decisions need to be made to maintain their operations, to ensure minimal damages, if any, for their stakeholders.

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huong, Country HR Manager, ManpowerGroup Vietnam, shared: “Given the impact of COVID-19, HR leaders need to look at their role as well-being experts in their organization, apart from traditional roles. Especially, they need to understand working parents’ needs, i.e. what matters most to them at the Workplace, at Home and in the Future. Now is the time to rethink the way people work, are recognized and rewarded with parents’ front and center, particularly for women.”

Right now, business leaders need to proactively establish agile principles and respond faster to steer safely and be successful. Ms. Truong Bich Dao, Human Resources Director, Nestlé Vietnam, agreed that every business faces the risks of human resources disruption, especially in the most heavily impacted industries. However, HR leaders should not just handle this crisis on where it impacts the most, but they should also strive to work on the opportunities that can be created to support their business be more successful.
