“77% of employers report difficulty finding the skilled talent they need in 2023”, said Nguyen Xuan Viet Hoang, National Sales Manager, ManpowerGroup Vietnam during the 5th conference of "Forum Horizon Innovation 5.0" when addressing how work organization being transformed.
Hybrid is here to stay
Around the world, 64% HR leaders believe that remote work has provided access to the right talent. “The pandemic witnessed the benefits of hybrid work and the shift to this working model has transformed the way businesses manage their employees”, Hoang emphasized.
On the other side, 46% of employers said that in-person brainstorming sessions generate the most creative ideas and some believed this model was mostly applied for white-collar workers. Hoang added, “In Vietnam, where the manufacturing is still driving the economy’s engine for growth, only more than 1/3 of surveyed businesses have been applying hybrid work. Hence, implementing this model remains in many discussions."
The in-demand soft skills change
A 10-year software engineer asked, “From my practical experiences and research projects I have participated in the past years, communication skills are the most sought-after skills, so is that still true?”
This is not only a big question of the job candidates but also a significant reason, among others, for talent shortage in Vietnam and globally. With advanced technology and digital transformation, soft skills become more important than ever.
Hoang said, “According to ManpowerGroup Q2 2023 research, under the influence of many factors and uncertainties, the top in-demand skills now are other soft skills, rather than communication, such as Reliability & Self-Discipline, Creativity & Originality, Critical Thinking & Analysis, Reasoning & Problem-Solving, Resilience & Adaptability".
Sustainable strategy for agile workforce
In today’s world characterized by talent shortages, vol volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA), businesses are pursuing long-term talent strategy to sustain competitive differentiators while optimizing current resources. “Leaders and managers will need to have flexible approach on HR solutions, like leveraging external expertise when appropriate or reskill, upskill the existing employees, to adapt well to uncertainties and disruptions", Hoang shared.
