With the participation of BUV’s MBA students and alumni who are also senior managers from various industries, the workshop was aimed at providing useful insights about the workforce in the new normal and strategic human resources management solutions that would enhance attendees’ career prospects or can be applied in their business operation.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang, Country Head, Permanent Recruitment, Executive Search & Consulting services, ManpowerGroup Vietnam brought to the workshop her expertise on the labor skills demand in the market after COVID-19. According to ManpowerGroup survey, the global health crisis has radically impacted the working life of 93% of the world population and the way organizations operate. Consequently, companies have no choice but to transform to be resilient, to overcome the unprecedented challenges, and to thrive. This also means the desired labor skills need to change, with greater focus is now put on soft skills (such as resilience, adaptability and initiative taking) and tech-related skills. “Tech acceleration is among top four trends in the labor landscape of 2022. While digital adoption is carried out at speed, employers are struggling to find the skilled tech talent, and up to 69% of organizations globally experiencing skills/talent scarcity, according to ManpowerGroup Talent Shortage Survey 2021.”

To attract and retain top talent in the new normal, Ms. Trang suggested companies to pay extra attention to what workers want, beside upskilling & reskilling. The Great Realization– the recently research by ManpowerGroup revealed that people now want employers to offer more – to prioritize wellbeing and purpose, while providing hygiene factors including flexibility, competitive pay, good working conditions and skills development, and a good company culture. Employers who understand and take actions to meet these needs will attract and keep the best and most suitable employees.

Mr. Jonathan Flexer - Head of Tenant Representation, CBRE Vietnam – one of the largest commercial real estate services firms serving owners, investors and occupiers - talked about the future of workplace after COVID-19. By starting with an opening question: “Is working from home working?”, Mr. Jonathan shared the rise of hybrid work and remote work in the world while discussing the benefits as well as drawbacks of these emerging trends. “As far as we are concerned, we believe that remote working will only work if employees have certain skills and traits such as accountability, time management, self-motivation or commitment.”

During the round-table discussion, the speakers and MBA students actively shared more about their thoughts on the future of work. The attendees showed their gratitude for lots of helpful insights and advices from two guest speakers which can be applied to their management skills or businesses’ operations.
