Head of Engineering – Global Software Company (Vietnam)

Our client is a fast-growing global software company specializing in SaaS. With operations across multiple markets, we are expanding our engineering leadership in Vietnam to drive product innovation, scale development teams, and ensure world-class software delivery.
We are seeking an experienced Head of Engineering to lead and scale our technology teams, drive engineering excellence, and establish a strong technical culture. This role is ideal for an expat tech leader or an overseas Vietnamese professional looking to relocate to Vietnam and make a significant impact in a rapidly growing market.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Leadership & Strategy
- Define and execute the engineering strategy, aligning it with business objectives and product roadmaps.
- Build and scale a high-performance engineering team in Vietnam, attracting and retaining top-tier talent.
- Collaborate with global teams (HQ, regional, and distributed engineering teams) to ensure seamless execution and delivery.
- Implement best practices in software development, DevOps, and agile methodologies to enhance efficiency and quality.
2. Team Building & People Development
- Hire, mentor, and develop engineering managers, team leads, and senior engineers.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Establish and drive a technical training program to upskill teams and keep them aligned with the latest technology trends.
3. Product Development & Technical Excellence
- Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring high standards in architecture, design, and code quality.
- Drive scalability, security, and performance in software platforms to support business growth.
- Lead technology stack decisions and ensure the adoption of the right frameworks and tools.
- Work closely with Product, UX/UI, and Data Science teams to create cutting-edge solutions.
5. Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as a key partner to the CEO, CTO, and executive team, providing technical insights and strategic guidance.
- Collaborate with business, product, and operations teams to align engineering efforts with company goals.
- Engage with external partners, universities, and tech communities to build a strong employer brand.
Key Qualifications
Must-Have:
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership roles (Head of Engineering, VP of Engineering, or similar).
- Proven track record in scaling and managing high-performing engineering teams (50+ engineers) in a fast-growing software/SaaS company.
- Expertise in modern technology stacks, including cloud-native architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP), microservices, Kubernetes, DevOps, and CI/CD.
- Strong background in agile methodologies, software engineering best practices, and product-driven development.
- Experience leading distributed teams and working in a global environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
