JOB DESCRIPTION – TOOLING & MANUFACTURING ENGINEER Job Title: Tooling & Manufacturing Engineer Location: Hanoi - Vietnam Reports To: Head of Water Laboratory (Direct) Dotted Line Report To: Director of Engineering
Job Summary The Tooling & Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and scaling high-quality production tooling and manufacturing processes for innovative water purification products. This role requires hands-on expertise in injection molding, silicone tooling, and manufacturing process optimization to ensure seamless product transitions from development to high-volume production.
The engineer will work closely with local and international teams, including product engineers based in Baltimore and global manufacturing partners in South Korea, the U.S., Mexico, and China, to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality production.
Key Responsibilities Tooling Development & Optimization Lead the design, development, and validation of injection molding and silicone tooling to meet product requirements and production efficiency.
Optimize tooling design for performance, durability, and ease of manufacturing, ensuring high production quality.
Work closely with product development teams to define tooling specifications and requirements.
Oversee tooling fabrication, validation, and commissioning, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
Conduct root cause analysis of tooling issues and implement corrective actions.
Manufacturing Process Development Support new product introduction (NPI) by overseeing the initial injection shots, assembly trials, and production scalability validation.
Develop and implement scalable manufacturing processes in collaboration with global factory teams. Conduct on-site visits to manufacturing sites to standardize production processes and optimize for large-scale production.
Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency.
Supplier & Vendor Management
Manage relationships with tooling suppliers and production partners in Vietnam and globally. Conduct supplier audits and evaluations to ensure quality and compliance with specifications. Act as a liaison between internal engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure smooth project execution.
Oversee trial runs and process transfers from development to mass production.
Project & Cost Management
Develop and track tooling and manufacturing project timelines to meet development and production schedules.
Monitor tooling and production costs, seeking cost-saving opportunities through process optimization.
Ensure tooling designs align with budget constraints while maintaining quality standards.
Quality & Compliance Work closely with quality assurance teams to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Implement best practices in tooling maintenance and lifecycle management to prolong tool life and ensure consistent quality.
Collaboration & Communication
Maintain direct communication with product engineers in Baltimore, ensuring alignment on tooling and manufacturing requirements.
Work closely with the validation and quality teams in Hanoi to ensure all components and assemblies meet required standards.
Provide regular project updates to stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of timelines and deliverables.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in injection molding, tooling development, and manufacturing engineering. Strong knowledge of tooling design, materials, and injection molding processes.
Proven experience working with global manufacturing partners and suppliers.
Hands-on experience with process validation, tooling optimization, and production scale-up. Ability to travel to supplier sites in Vietnam, South Korea, the U.S., Mexico, and China.
Skills
Proficiency in CAD and Moldflow software for tooling and process design.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for tooling and production challenges. Project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines. Excellent communication skills in English, comfortable working with international teams. Proactive mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement and cost reduction.
