Humans Become Indispensable as IT Innovations Accelerate

Vietnam, 07 August 2024. ManpowerGroup, the leading workforce solution company, releases the IT World of Work 2024 Outlook report. The paper highlights eight key global trends driving IT innovation and their impact on businesses and workers in the coming time. Although many include the use of increased automation, the future of IT innovation will still depend on a highly skilled workforce.

In the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the IT industry stands among the top 3 for strongest hiring intentions in Quarter 3/ 2024. However, 78% of IT employers report difficulty finding the skilled talent they need. The ManpowerGroup IT World of Work 2024 Outlook envisions a future where the accelerating adoption of AI, cloud, and quantum computing amplifies the importance of the human element.

"We are excited to share this comprehensive report at a time when digital transformation is at the forefront of every business strategy in Vietnam”, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thanh, Regional Manager North, Permanent Recruitment & Executive Search, ManpowerGroup Vietnam remarks. “As IT innovations accelerate, humans don’t just keep pace; they lead the charge, becoming more indispensable than ever. The IT industry is not just about machines and algorithm; it’s about the people who make technology work for everyone.”

By 2030, the semiconductor industry will need more than 1M additional workers to meet global demand

Key global trends in IT:

1. The Evolution of AI: There is a growing adoption of AI and machine learning (ML) in every business, but the skills gap is increasing. Hiring managers globally rank “Training our staff to leverage AI in their current roles” as #1 workforce AI challenge as 78% think they cannot train employees fast enough to keep up with new technologies.
2. Cloud Skies: Cloud adoption, accelerated by AI and ML, is driving business transformation. Worldwide public cloud services are forecast to grow 19.1% in 2024. However, skilled talent remains essential for facilitating this growth. A cloud engineer in Vietnam can earn between US $1.800 and $4.000 monthly according to ManpowerGroup Vietnam Salary Guide 2024.
3. Soft Skills in IT: While hard skills gaps in IT talent are well-documented, the rapid pace of innovation underscores the growing importance of soft skills like collaboration, adaptability, and stress tolerance.
4. CHIPS: Amid supply chain disruptions and geopolitical uncertainty, manufacturers are localizing semiconductor production, driving demand for skilled talent. By 2030, the semiconductor industry globally will need more than 1M additional workers, and Vietnam will need to have 50,000 semiconductor engineers to meet the annual labor demand growth of 10-15 %.
5. Quantum Leaps: Quantum computing is shifting from theory to practical applications, driven by big data, AI adoption, and cybersecurity concerns. By 2050, up to 50% of quantum computing jobs could remain unfilled. In Vietnam, the talent pool for this field is limited, with very few universities and academies offering quantum research programs.
6. The Future of IT is Green: As advanced computing evolves, IT faces sustainability challenges. By 2027, 80% of CIOs will have sustainability performance targets. Most IT employers worldwide (77%) say they are considering or actively recruiting candidates with green skills.
7. Cyber Shields Up: Cyberattacks and data breaches are now commonplace, driven by geopolitical tensions and sophisticated tactics. The demand for skilled talent intensifies, with the industry needing 4 million more cybersecurity workers to address growing global threats.
8. People-first Digital Transformation: Conversational AI’s democratization sparks discussions on digital transformation and automation, leading to new skilled roles. People-first employers are optimistic, with 82% are investing in new talent in response to rapid advances in technology.
